Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N)- Thirteen army officers accused in two cases related to crimes against humanity—specifically enforced disappearance and torture—were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) in Dhaka on Sunday morning.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, is scheduled to hear the two disappearance cases today. A date for framing of charges may also be set during the proceedings.

Meanwhile, the defense lawyers for the accused officers have filed an application seeking permission for the officers to attend the next hearing virtually instead of appearing physically.

Earlier, on October 8, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for 25 current and former army officers in connection with three cases—two involving enforced disappearance and one related to killings during the July uprising. Formal charges in all three cases were submitted on the same day.

Subsequently, on October 22, fifteen officers who were in army custody were brought to the tribunal in plain clothes in a special prison van. After the hearing, the tribunal ordered them to be sent to jail. They were later transferred to the designated sub-jail at Dhaka Cantonment.
