Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) — The hearing on the leave-to-appeal against the High Court’s order declaring the formation and oath-taking of the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus as valid will resume tomorrow.
Today, Tuesday (December 2), a seven-member full appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed conducted the hearing. During the proceedings, lawyers emphasized that the greatest legitimacy lies with the people, and the foundation of legitimacy is the trust and faith of the citizens.
Earlier, on November 12, senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Mohsin Rashid had conducted the hearing. During that session, the Attorney General filed a contempt of court complaint against Mohsin Rashid for making remarks deemed negative about the judiciary. Subsequently, the Appellate Division sought an explanation from the lawyer regarding his comments.
It may be recalled that in December last year, Mohsin Rashid filed a writ in the High Court challenging the validity of the interim government’s oath. The High Court dismissed the writ, stating that no one can question the interim government’s legitimacy as it derives authority from the people. Mohsin Rashid later sought permission to appeal to the Appellate Division.
