Dhaka, Mar 11 (V7N) – A five-member fact-finding committee has begun its investigation into the July massacre case and the alleged bribery involving former prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder. The committee started its work today, Wednesday (March 11), at 12 noon.
The committee was formed by Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam following a long meeting yesterday afternoon. Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam will also serve as the head of the committee. The other members are Prosecutor Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, newly appointed prosecutor Marjina Raihan Medina, Mohammad Zahirul Amin, and International Crimes Tribunal Law Research Officer Sifatullah.
According to the prosecution, the committee has been tasked with investigating overall issues related to the investigation and prosecution of cases by the reconstituted International Crimes Tribunal, in addition to probing allegations of bribery involving Saimum Reza Talukder.
Saimum Reza is accused of repeatedly contacting the family of former MP Fazle Karim Chowdhury, who is charged with crimes against humanity, and demanding crores of taka to secure his bail or release.
The committee’s findings are expected to shed light on alleged misconduct within the tribunal and ensure accountability in the prosecution process.
