Cox’s Bazar, Sept 3 (V7N) – A major drug bust unfolded in Ramu Upazila on Tuesday as local police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intercepted large quantities of yaba (methamphetamine) and made multiple arrests.
In the first operation, Ramu police conducted a raid in the Madhyam Ghonarpāra area of Rajarkul Union around 4:00 PM. Acting on a tip-off, they apprehended 25-year-old Abu Taher, son of Sultan Ahmed from Ghilatali village, along with 1,30,000 yaba tablets and a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the drugs. The operation was carried out near the new cemetery adjacent to the Pānjegāna–Sonai Chāri road. A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act, confirmed by OC (in-charge) Mohammad Arif Hossain.
In a separate incident the same evening, the BGB intercepted two women—one a Rohingya refugee, the other a local Bengali—at the Morichya joint checkpoint on the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf highway. The women were found in possession of an additional 20,000 yaba tablets, valued at over Tk 60 lakh, and were taken into custody. BGB launched the operation under its continuous anti-trafficking efforts in border areas. A case is being processed at Ramu Police Station.
Authorities have underscored that the success of these operations is part of an intensified campaign to prevent drug smuggling in the region, leveraging both intelligence-based policing and regular border surveillance.
