Sundarbans, Dec 08 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted two separate nighttime operations in the Sundarbans, rescuing four abducted fishermen along with firearms and ammunition, and arresting four wildlife poachers with a large quantity of deer meat. The information was confirmed in a press statement by Coast Guard Media Officer Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq.
Acting on intelligence that members of the notorious “Dakat Dulavai Bahini,” an armed gang operating inside the Sundarbans, were positioned near the Nagjorra Canal along the Koyra River, the Coast Guard launched an operation at around 8 p.m. on Sunday. During the raid, personnel recovered a single-barrel gun, one round of live ammunition, and one spent cartridge. They also rescued four fishermen who had been held hostage by the gang. The criminals managed to flee upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, leaving no suspects detained. The rescued fishermen were later handed over to their families, while legal procedures regarding the seized firearm and ammunition are under way.
In a separate operation at around 2 a.m. on Monday, Coast Guard teams raided the Maydapasha Canal area and its surroundings along the Koyra River following additional intelligence inputs. During extensive searches, they arrested four deer poachers and seized 72 kilograms of venison, two deer heads and 300 meters of hunting trap wire. Legal actions against the detainees and the confiscated wildlife products are currently in progress.
Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq stated that the Coast Guard remains committed to keeping the Sundarbans free from bandit groups and preventing wildlife killing and trafficking. He added that similar operations will continue to protect the biodiversity and security of the mangrove forest.
