Pabna, Dec 13 (V7N) – Two young men, Suman Sarkar (35) and Mamun Hossain (32), died after consuming toxic alcohol late Thursday night in Pabna. The incident has shocked the local community, though family members have declined to comment or file formal complaints with authorities.

The deceased, Suman Sarkar, son of Sonchit Sarkar from Gopalpur neighborhood, and Mamun Hossain, son of Habibur Rahman from Radhanagar Maktab area, were both members of a local band sound organization and were recognized as skilled musical artists.

Confirming the deaths, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Hossain of Pabna Sadar Police Station said that hospital records listed alcohol consumption as the cause of death. He added that further investigation is ongoing to determine where, how, and what type of alcohol was consumed, as well as the circumstances leading to their deaths.

According to the OC, the body of one deceased was taken home by family members for traditional funeral rites, while the other was brought to the police station. No formal written complaints have been submitted by either family yet. Authorities said legal measures will follow the investigation.

Senior staff nurse Sukhi Khatun of Pabna General Hospital reported that one of the men was admitted at midnight and the other at around 3 a.m. One died at the hospital and was taken by relatives, while the second passed away en route to Rajshahi.

Local sources revealed that both men had consumed alcohol following an event on Wednesday night. They fell ill soon afterward and were admitted to the hospital late Thursday night when their condition worsened.

Authorities are currently investigating the source and nature of the alcohol and have urged the public to avoid consuming illicit or unverified alcoholic beverages.
