DHAKA, Nov 05, V7N- Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus met with the heads of several state reform commissions today at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon to review the progress on various reform initiatives.
During the meeting, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission, briefed Yunus on the commission's active reform work. Chowdhury noted that efforts are well underway, with public feedback being solicited online, and commission members have visited district and upazila levels to gather insights. The commission is also consulting representatives from various public administration cadres and aims to submit its report on schedule.
Safar Raz Hossain, leading the Police Administration Reform Commission, reported that the commission has held numerous meetings, including four with relevant stakeholders. A questionnaire for public feedback is available online, and proposals to amend certain laws and simplify processes are being reviewed. Additionally, Hossain shared that they are exploring updates to the Criminal Procedure Code of 1898, especially regarding methods for crowd control.
Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Electoral Reform Commission, discussed measures to facilitate the voting rights of Bangladeshi expatriates, including initiatives to enable postal voting. Majumdar also highlighted efforts to align the voter list with the national identity card (NID) database and to enhance women’s participation in the electoral process. He stated that the commission is engaging with stakeholders and collecting input digitally to ensure comprehensive reform.
These updates reflect ongoing efforts to improve the effectiveness, inclusivity, and responsiveness of public administration, policing, and electoral systems in Bangladesh.
