Barishal, Jan 09, (V7N) - Masked assailants attacked and vandalized the homes of two BNP leaders, Zahirul Islam Litu and Syed Akbar, in Barishal around 8 PM. The attackers, numbering 30-40, wore helmets and monkey hats, arriving on motorcycles and three-wheelers to carry out the coordinated assault.

Details of the Incident:
Eyewitness Rubel Hossain recounted that the group first targeted Litu's home on the main road in Kawnia, damaging two motorcycles and breaking property inside. The attackers shouted insults at Litu, who was not present during the attack. His wife and two children were reportedly left in a state of fear.

Syed Akbar described a similar attack on his house, where windows were shattered using machetes and hockey sticks. "The police have been informed, and we will decide on legal action after discussions," Akbar said.

Police Response:
Nazmul Nishat, Officer-in-Charge of Kawnia Police Station, confirmed that officers visited the scene. However, the attackers remain unidentified. "Action will be taken if a formal complaint is lodged," Nishat stated.

Reactions from Local BNP Leaders:
Local BNP leaders, including Mir Jahidul Kabir, KM Shahidullah, and Mohsin Montu, rushed to support the victims and condemned the attack. Kabir described the incident as cowardly and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation. "If any party members are involved, we will inform the central command. For now, both leaders will file complaints with the police," he added.

Victims’ Statements:
Litu expressed concern for his family’s safety, vowing to pursue legal action. Akbar also confirmed his intent to take legal steps after consultations.
