Chuadanga, Jan 09, (V7N) - Two local BNP leaders in Chuadanga Sadar upazila were fined Tk 2.5 lakh by a mobile court on Wednesday for illegally cutting soil under the guise of pond excavation. The leaders, Nur Gani, President of Makhaldanga union BNP, and Khairul Islam Zudho, Joint General Secretary of Darshana Thana BNP, also faced a 3-month imprisonment sentence if they failed to pay the fine.
Acting on a tip-off, Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M. Saifullah conducted a raid in the Pantapara field, where the illegal activity was taking place. Despite claiming the soil cutting was part of pond digging, the accused failed to present legal documents when asked.
The mobile court imposed the fine, confiscated a tractor and plough used in the operation, and warned that further legal action would follow for similar offences.
UNO Saifullah emphasized that unauthorized land-cutting, even on personal property, is a criminal offence and assured strict action against offenders upon receiving complaints.
The two leaders were released after paying the fine.
