Teknaf, Jan 15, (V7N) – A significant fire broke out on St. Martin Island, located in the Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar, resulting in the complete destruction of three resorts. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the incident.The fire ignited around 2:30 AM in the Galachipa area of the island's west beach, starting at the Galachipa Beach Valley Resort.

It quickly spread to nearby establishments, including Shayari Eco Resort and Kingshuk Eco Resort, ultimately consuming a total of 30 rooms across the three resorts.Local resident Nur Alam reported that the initial blaze at Shayari Eco Resort was caused by the burning of garbage, which then spread to the other resorts.

The fire was brought under control through the combined efforts of the Coast Guard, Navy, Tourist Police, and BGB members, along with local residents, after they received news of the fire.Major Ishtiaq Ahmed, Deputy Commander of Teknaf-2 BGB, stated that while the cause of the fire remains unconfirmed, they acted promptly upon receiving reports.

The fire was extinguished within an hour and a half.This incident raises concerns about fire safety and emergency response measures on the island, especially given its popularity as a tourist destination. Local authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire further to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
