Jhalkathi, April 7 (V7N) - Akhtar Hossain Nizam Mirbahar, the General Secretary of the BNP in Kathalia Upazila, has responded to the show-cause notice issued by the district BNP. On Sunday, April 6, he submitted his reply, signed by Advocate Syed Hossain, the Convener of Jhalkathi District BNP, and Advocate Shahadat Hossain, the Member Secretary. In his response, Nizam Mirbahar addressed the various allegations against him and provided explanations for each point.
The response, which has spread widely on social media platforms like Facebook, clearly states that he has been serving as the General Secretary of Kathalia Upazila BNP with honesty and integrity since his election on March 30, 2022. He emphasized that he is not involved in any extortion activities and has never done anything to tarnish the party's image. Nizam further highlighted his long history of leadership in the party, mentioning his tenure in various positions since 1980, including roles in the Chatrodol wing, Jubodol wing, and eventually as the General Secretary of Kathalia Upazila BNP.
In his detailed explanation, Nizam denied all accusations against him, labeling them as false, fabricated, and motivated by malice aimed at damaging his reputation and the reputation of the party. He provided a detailed account of the legal case filed on November 21, 2024, which was done with the presence of senior leaders and witnesses of the Kathalia Upazila BNP. The case involves the destruction of party property, including furniture in the BNP office by Suman Khalifa and others, who were allegedly acting under the instructions of certain individuals affiliated with Shahjahan Omar, an Awami League candidate.
Nizam also clarified that he never demanded any extortion from Suman Khalifa, nor did he support any particular candidate during the local elections. He affirmed that he strictly adhered to the party's decision to boycott the voting process during the elections and was never involved in any activities that would damage the party's reputation.
He concluded his response by requesting that, after a proper investigation, he be absolved of the charges, describing them as entirely false and intentionally misleading.
The show-cause notice had been issued by the district BNP on April 5, 2025, accusing him of violating party discipline and damaging its image, and giving him three days to respond in writing.
