Rajshahi, Apr 06 (V7N) – In the wake of the violent incidents in Bagmara upazila, Rajshahi, where fish trader Abdur Razzak was stabbed to death and the accused, Aminul Islam, was subsequently lynched by an angry mob, two separate cases have been filed by police and the victim's family. A total of 1,200 unidentified individuals have been named as accused in these cases.
"Two cases have been filed in connection with the stabbing death of fish trader Abdur Razzak and the lynching of accused Aminul Islam by an agitated mob in Ranshibazar area of Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi and the attack on police. 1,200 unidentified people have been named as accused in two separate cases filed at Bagmara police station on Saturday night," confirmed Bagmara Police Station OC Touhidul Islam.
According to OC Touhidul Islam, the first case was filed by Bagmara Police Station SI Abdul Gani Chowdhury, who is the plaintiff in the matter concerning the lynching of Aminul Islam and the injury of a police officer during the mob violence. The second case was filed by Ekram Pramanik, the brother of the deceased fish trader Abdur Razzak, regarding his brother's murder.
"Bagmara Police Station OC Touhidul Islam said that Bagmara Police Station SI Abdul Gani Chowdhury has filed a case as the plaintiff in the incident in which Aminul was killed and a policeman was injured in the mob beating. Another case has been filed by Ekram Pramanik, the brother of deceased fish trader Abdur Razzak," OC Touhidul Islam stated.
Police have stated that both cases are being treated with the utmost importance and that a thorough investigation is underway, including examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged mob justice.
"He said, 'The two cases are being looked into with utmost importance. It is being investigated whether anyone was involved in the mob justice. The law enforcement agencies are working keeping in mind the overall issue of the robbery and murder of a businessman and the attack on police personnel,'" OC Touhidul Islam added.
The sequence of events began on Friday, April 4th, around 5:30 PM in the Ranshibazar area when Aminul Islam allegedly stabbed fish trader Abdur Razzak. Following the stabbing, marketgoers apprehended Aminul and assaulted him. When Bagmara police arrived to take him into custody, a large and agitated crowd reportedly intervened, forcibly taking Aminul from police custody and beating him to death. During this chaotic incident, two police officers were injured, and four other individuals were reportedly assaulted.
"Aminul Islam stabbed fish trader Abdur Razzak in the Ranshibazar area around 5:30 pm on Friday (April 4). At that time, people in the market chased Aminul and detained him and beat him up. Upon receiving the information, Bagmara Than police went to the spot and tried to rescue Aminul. But after a while, an agitated crowd came to the market, snatched Aminul from the police and beat him to death. Two policemen were injured and four people were assaulted in the incident," police reports detailed.
The naming of 1,200 unidentified individuals as accused suggests that authorities are anticipating a wide-ranging investigation to identify those involved in the mob violence and the attack on law enforcement.
