Rajshahi, APR 13 (V7N)– A potentially dangerous incident occurred in the Paba upazila of Rajshahi early Sunday morning when trains passed over a broken section of railway track at the Mohanpur railway crossing. The event, which involved the Banalata and Chilahati Express trains, has sparked significant concern among local residents regarding railway safety.

"A train ran over a broken rail line at the Mohanpur railway crossing in Paba upazila of Rajshahi. The incident in the early hours of Sunday (April 13) has raised concerns among locals. Banalata and Chilahati Express trains from Rajshahi ran over the broken track in the morning," reported Md. Ramadan Ali, Rajshahi Bureau.

The broken section of the track was discovered by pedestrians, who promptly alerted the railway authorities. Railway workers arrived at the scene around 8 AM local time and immediately commenced repair work on the damaged line.

"Pedestrians spotted the broken section and informed the railway authorities. Railway workers then reached the spot around 8 am and started the repair work quickly," Ali noted.

Adding to the worries, this is not the first instance of a railway line break at the same location, indicating a potential recurring issue with the infrastructure at the Mohanpur crossing. The previous break was repaired, but the problem has now resurfaced.

"There had been a railway line break at the same location before. It was repaired then, but the problem resurfaced at the same location," the report highlighted.

Despite the severity of a broken rail line, Ahsan Habib, Senior Deputy Assistant (Road) Officer of the Western Railway, stated that train movement remained normal. He confirmed that a railway team was dispatched to the site to undertake the necessary repairs.

"Ahsan Habib, Senior Deputy Assistant (Road) Officer of the Western Railway, said, 'Even though the line burst, train movement was normal. Our team has gone to the spot and started work,'" Habib commented.

The fact that two express trains traversed a broken track before it was detected raises serious questions about the frequency and effectiveness of railway line inspections in the area. Locals are likely to demand a thorough investigation into the cause of the break and assurances of improved safety measures to prevent future incidents.
