Dhaka, Apr 9 (V7N) – Starlink, the satellite-based internet service provider and a subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially launched its trial internet service in Bangladesh, marking a significant step toward next-generation connectivity in the country.
The trial run began on Wednesday (March 9) at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka, where Starlink’s high-speed internet is being used to facilitate the ongoing Bangladesh Investment Summit. All participants at the venue are reportedly enjoying seamless internet access through the Starlink system, which is also powering the live broadcast of the conference activities.
According to official sources, the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has already approved Starlink's business operations in the country. However, to launch its services commercially, Starlink must obtain a Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) license from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). BTRC has reportedly approved the licensing process, which is currently underway.
The introduction of Starlink's service is expected to revolutionize internet access, particularly in remote and underserved regions of Bangladesh, where traditional infrastructure is limited or absent.
Experts believe Starlink’s presence could significantly improve connectivity, digital inclusion, and investment prospects in the country, aligning with Bangladesh’s vision for a Smart Bangladesh.
With the commercial launch now just a regulatory step away, the entry of Starlink signals a new era of satellite-based high-speed internet in the nation.
