Tangail, July 17 (V7N) — Prominent businessman, industrialist, and freedom fighter Nurul Islam Babul was remembered on the occasion of his fifth death anniversary at a memorial discussion held on Wednesday morning at Tangail Press Club.
Speakers at the event paid tribute to the founder and chairman of Jamuna Group, describing him as a courageous, visionary, and rare personality in Bangladesh’s business landscape. They emphasized his significant contributions to the nation's economic development, industrial modernization, and public welfare.
“Nurul Islam Babul was not only a successful entrepreneur but a man committed to national progress and social good,” said speakers. “His ventures under the Jamuna Group have created livelihoods for hundreds of thousands. He helped advance industrial technology in Bangladesh and his legacy will live on through his work.”
Particular praise was given to his media ventures—Jugantor and Jamuna Television—which, according to speakers, have played a critical role in defending public interest and ensuring independent journalism. Reflecting on political resistance, some noted that had Nurul Islam Babul been alive during the recent political crises, “he would have taken a firm stand against fascism.”
The memorial event was presided over by Zafar Ahmed, president of Tangail Press Club and a staff reporter of Jugantor. Chief guest was Tangail district BNP president Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, while special guests included Press Club general secretary Farhad Iqbal, former member-secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former president Ataur Rahman Azad, general secretary Kazi Zakerul Mowla, and civil society leaders like Masudur Rahman Russel, chief coordinator of Tangail NCP, and Al Amin, convener of the district’s Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
A prayer was led by journalist Masud Ferdous, a member of the Press Club.
The event was attended by local journalists from both print and electronic media, political and cultural activists, and people from various sectors, all united in honoring the legacy of a man regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most influential industrial pioneers.
Nurul Islam Babul passed away on July 13, 2020, leaving behind a towering legacy in business, media, and philanthropy.
