Madhabpur, July 16 (V7N) — In observance of July Martyrs’ Day, a discussion meeting was held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Madhabpur Upazila Parishad auditorium. The event was organized by the Madhabpur Upazila Administration and hosted by BRDB official Md. Faisal Chowdhury. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Zahid Bin Kashem presided over the program.
The event brought together a wide range of officials, political leaders, civil society members, and survivors of the violence remembered on this day. Key speakers included Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Mujibul Islam, Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahid Ullah, Upazila Health Officer Dr. Imrul Hasan, Livestock Officer Dr. Mithun Sarkar, and Upazila Cooperative Officer Md. Ismail Talukder Rahi.
Also addressing the gathering were Payera Begum, widow of July Martyr Shamim Mia; wounded survivors Ibrahim Khalilullah and Saiful Islam; Madhabpur Municipal BNP President Md. Golap Khan and General Secretary Alauddin Al Roni; Union Parishad Chairman Syed Mohammad Sohel; and Madhabpur Upazila Press Club President Tofazzal Hossain Chowdhury.
Representatives from student and civil society groups also took part. Among them were Sirajul Islam Tanzil, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and member secretary Shamsul Alam Babul. Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Madhabpur Upazila chapter, was also present.
The speakers collectively honored the memory of those who lost their lives in past political violence and emphasized the importance of unity, justice, and continued dialogue to prevent such tragedies in the future. Survivors shared firsthand testimonies, bringing an emotional depth to the proceedings.
The event concluded with a collective call for peaceful coexistence, institutional accountability, and remembrance of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of democratic rights and justice in Bangladesh.
