Silhet, Sept 17 (V7N) – The Sylhet district administration has given a 15-day deadline to remove unauthorized CNG-powered auto-rickshaws operating in the city.
On Tuesday afternoon, the district administration conducted an operation targeting illegal auto-rickshaws and unauthorized stands across Sylhet. Following the operation, officials issued the ultimatum.
District Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam stated that after the 15-day period, strict action will be taken against unauthorized CNG auto-rickshaws. Measures may include fines, seizure, and disposal of the vehicles if necessary.
According to the District Commissioner, there are nearly 19,000 licensed CNG auto-rickshaws in Sylhet, but the number of illegal vehicles exceeds this. These vehicles are not permitted to operate. Drivers have been given time until September 22 to comply. After this date, all unauthorized auto-rickshaws must be removed from the city and relocated to surrounding upazilas.
“While we do not wish to be inhumane regarding anyone’s livelihood, illegal vehicles must be removed to restore order in Sylhet city,” added the District Commissioner.
