Teknaf, Oct 6 (V7N) — The body of a four-year-old girl, identified as Afsie Monir, was recovered from a pond in Hoakia Para village of Hnila Union under Teknaf upazila on Sunday afternoon. Police have detained six suspects for questioning in connection with the child’s death.
 
According to family members, Afsie, the daughter of engineer Mamun from Hnila’s Hoakia Para, went missing around 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4. Nearly 22 hours later, locals discovered her body floating in a pond near Dilu Member’s house in East Pankhali around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Family members later identified the body.
 
Relatives alleged that the child had been suffocated to death before her body was dumped in the pond. They also claimed that Afsie’s earrings were missing and that her face bore marks resembling those from adhesive tape.
 
Himel Barua, the Investigation Officer at Teknaf Model Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the child’s body and said that an investigation was underway. “We were informed by locals about the incident. Legal measures will be taken after a full investigation,” he stated.
 
The incident has cast a shadow of grief across the community. Residents have demanded a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
