Pabna, Feb (V7N) – Lalita Gulshan Mita, a leader of the Nationalist Women’s Party in Ishwardi, has expressed her interest in becoming a Member of Parliament from a reserved women’s seat with the aim of working for the development and empowerment of women, especially the neglected and deprived sections of society.

Following the 13th National Parliament election, political activities surrounding the 50 reserved seats for women have intensified across the country. In Pabna-Sirajganj region, several leaders are seeking party nomination, with Mita emerging as one of the notable aspirants.

Local sources said Mita has long been involved in social, educational, cultural and women’s development activities in the region. Many residents believe her grassroots engagement and organizational experience make her a suitable candidate for the reserved women’s seat.

Lalita Gulshan Mita, wife of Md. Alamgir Kabir of Bansherbada village in Ishwardi upazila, is a mother of two sons. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Mosharraf Hossain and the late Rosy Hossain. Academically, she holds a Master’s degree in English and is currently pursuing an LLB degree.

Her political journey began during the 1995-96 session at Ishwardi Government College, where she served as student affairs secretary of the college branch of Chhatra Dal. She is currently serving as the Joint Office Secretary of the central committee of the Nationalist Women’s Party and holds key positions in both Pabna district and Ishwardi municipal units of the organization.

Previously, she served as joint convener, general secretary and president of Jatiyabadi Mahila Dal’s Dhaka Metropolitan North Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana branch, as well as women’s affairs secretary and general secretary of the Mahila Dal Ishwardi Upazila branch. She is also associated with Bansherbada Degree (Honours) College as its president and has served as the former president of Bansherbada Bahumukhi High School.

Apart from politics, Mita is known as a successful female entrepreneur and social worker. Through various training initiatives, she has been involved in employment support programs benefiting a large number of unemployed women. She has also extended humanitarian assistance to disaster-affected people through personal initiatives.

In her student life, she achieved success in sports, becoming champion in badminton and volleyball at upazila, district and divisional levels, and also excelled in athletics, dance and recitation competitions.

Speaking about her aspiration, Mita said she wants to work through politics for the welfare of society and the country, with a special focus on the empowerment and development of underprivileged women. She added that she has already applied to the party chairman seeking nomination for the reserved women’s seat and hopes the party leadership will evaluate her contributions and dedication.
