Jhalakathi , Feb 24(V7N) - Rajapur police have rescued a 16-month-old child who was kidnapped in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi. A case has been registered in this incident on charges of ransom demand and death threats.
It is learnt that on Sunday (February 22) night, locals found an unidentified boy crying near a canal in the brick kiln area of West Angaria village of Rajapur upazila. Hearing the child's cries while going to Isha prayers, three people rushed forward and rescued him. Later, unable to find the child's guardian in the vicinity, they informed the Rajapur police station and handed over the child to the police.
Meanwhile, at the same time, the child's father Md. Mahabur Rahman Molla (32) and his godmother Moyna Begum (29) arrived at Rajapur police station to search for their child. There, Mahabur Molla identified the rescued child as his 16-month-old son Md. Mihir.
The victim's family alleges that Moyna Begum's ex-husband, Tota Mia (35), kidnapped the child due to a family dispute.
It is learned that Moyna Begum divorced Tota Mia two months ago and remarried two weeks ago. It has been alleged that Tota Mia could not accept this.
According to family sources, on Saturday, February 21, Tota Mia spent the night at Mahabur Molla's house in Noakati area of Dumuria upazila of Khulna district. The next day (February 22), Sunday, around 9:30 am, he left with child Mihir, saying he would go for a walk. Then he went straight to his house in Rajapur. After leaving the house, his mobile phone was found switched off. Later, around 2:30 pm, Tota Mia turned on his mobile phone and called Mahabur's sister Nazma Begum's number and said that if he sent his ex-wife Maina to Rajapur with three lakh taka, he would return child Mihir. Family members alleged that if they reported the matter to the police, they also threatened to kill the child. After the incident, the child's family reported the matter to Dumuria police station.
With the help of information technology, the police identified the location of the accused in the Rajapur area and sent the family to Rajapur police station to take legal action.
In this regard, Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nazrul Islam said that the child, who was rescued by the cooperation of Rajapur and Dumuria police stations, has been handed over to the family. A kidnapping case has been registered at Dumuria Police Station in this incident. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused.
