Ishwardi, Feb 23 (V7N) – Police have arrested a private car driver on charges of attempting to run over a Belarusian citizen in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.

The incident took place on Monday night in front of Galaxy Bar in the market area adjacent to Notunhat Green City.

The injured foreign national has been identified as Harshakou Ulazislau (30), an engineer of Nikimuth Company working on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project.

According to eyewitnesses, a private car (Dhaka Metro-G 14-7382) approached the Belarusian citizen at high speed and allegedly tried to run him over deliberately. When he attempted to move away, the vehicle hit his leg hard, leaving him seriously injured on the road, while the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Locals rescued him and took him to a medical centre inside Green City, where he was given first aid. Relevant sources said his physical condition is currently out of danger.

Police later arrested the accused driver, Sanjida Hossain (21), son of Arshad Alam and a resident of Madhya Arankola in Ishwardi Municipality, and also seized the private car used in the incident.

Ishwardi Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Kumar Sarkar said the incident is being investigated seriously and legal action is being taken based on the complaint.
