Cox's Bazar, April 20, (V7N) - The Bangladesh Navy seized a motorized wooden boat carrying a large quantity of cement while it was being smuggled to Myanmar during a patrol along the maritime border on Sunday. Eleven individuals were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt, and the vessel has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
Navy sources confirmed that a team conducting regular patrols under "Operation Treasure Shield" intercepted a suspicious boat named "FB Abdur Rahman-2" on April 19. Upon searching the vessel, officials discovered 850 bags of cement with an estimated market value of approximately 1.51 crore taka. The Navy stated that such operations will continue to ensure the security of the country's maritime borders and prevent illegal trade.
In a separate development, Teknaf Model Police arrested 27 individuals, including several fugitives, during a special drive across various parts of the upazila. The operation, conducted under the direction of Cox's Bazar District Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman and supervised by OC Saiful Islam, targeted accused individuals with outstanding warrants and those involved in ongoing criminal cases.
According to police sources, the arrested group includes eight people with GR warrants, one with a CR warrant, and six accused in various previous cases. Additionally, five individuals were detained under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while others were processed through mobile courts or regular cases. OC Saiful Islam confirmed that all the arrested persons were sent to the Cox's Bazar court on Monday afternoon and noted that these special operations would continue to curb crime in the region.
