Dhaka, Apr 16 (V7N) — Eleven political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, have announced a 15-day program featuring mass rallies and other activities to press their demand for implementing the “July Charter” and a national referendum.
The announcement was made on Thursday at a press conference held at the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, where Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar outlined the schedule.
According to the program, the first phase will run from April 18 to May 2. As part of the schedule, joint mass rallies of the 11-party alliance will be held on April 18. Another round of rallies will take place in all divisional cities (excluding Dhaka) on April 25, followed by district-level rallies across the country on May 2.
During the same period, leaflets will be distributed and seminars will be organized in divisional cities and selected district towns. Educated speakers and analysts are expected to participate in these discussions.
The alliance also plans to hold larger rallies under city corporations and district units after May 2, followed by a major national rally in Dhaka, where top leaders are expected to address supporters.
At the press conference, Professor Parwar criticized the current administration, alleging that despite official claims, a fuel and energy shortage is affecting daily life, with long queues forming at petrol stations and transport disruptions being reported.
He also accused the government of partisan practices within the administration, including transfers, forced resignations, and administrative restructuring, claiming that such actions reflect a continuation of undemocratic governance patterns.
He said the alliance believes the only solution to the current political and governance crisis is the implementation of reforms agreed upon in the proposed “July Charter.”
