RAJSHAHI, June 16, (V7N) – US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen visited Baneshwar Mango Hat in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi, one of the largest mango markets in the northern region, on Tuesday morning. He was accompanied by Political Counselor Eric Gillan, Political Officer Charles Besnard, and other senior embassy officials. The visit marked the ambassador's first trip to Rajshahi during the mango season.

During the visit, the ambassador inquired about different varieties of mangoes sold at the market, spoke to traders and farmers, and tasted various locally produced mangoes. Traders present at the market expressed happiness over the visit, hoping it would help Rajshahi mangoes gain more recognition internationally. Local farmers noted that the quality and taste of Rajshahi mangoes are known worldwide, and such visits by foreign diplomats could further advance the country's agricultural export potential.

After the visit, Ambassador Christensen told reporters, "This is my first visit to Rajshahi as an ambassador. I came once in 2020, but this time I came specifically during the mango season because I wanted to taste the mangoes of Rajshahi. I am really happy to be here." He added that he comes from an agricultural state in the United States, and there is no better experience than visiting where the product is produced.

The ambassador said, "Americans love mangoes. Although we usually get them frozen and use them to make shakes. Mangoes are available in the United States, but I don't think it is possible to get as many fresh mangoes there as here." His remarks highlighted the quality and abundance of fresh mangoes in Bangladesh.

Advising on increasing the potential of Bangladesh's mango exports, the ambassador said, "I think Bangladesh needs more cold chains. Because frozen mangoes are most suitable for export due to the availability of mangoes throughout the year. Therefore, Bangladesh needs to develop its cold chain system for improved production and export of mangoes throughout the year." The visit underscored the growing international interest in Bangladesh's agricultural products and export potential.
