Jhalakathi, July 26 (V7N) — Residents of Bamonkhan area in Rajapur Upazila of Jhalakathi district have repaired a nearly 700-metre-long dilapidated road through a community-led voluntary initiative, restoring a vital route that had remained in poor condition for a long time.
People from different walks of life participated in the voluntary road repair campaign, demonstrating a strong sense of community cooperation and civic responsibility.
The repair work was supported with brick chips and sand donated by Zahirul Haque Sohel, Joint Convener of the Jhalakathi District Jubo Dal, and Golam Kibria Barkat, General Secretary of the Shuktagar Union BNP.
According to local residents, the road had become severely damaged over the years, causing significant hardship for schoolchildren, farmers, and commuters. Travel became particularly difficult during the monsoon season, when sections of the road turned muddy and nearly impassable.
Rather than waiting for a government-funded repair project, local residents took the initiative to restore the road through voluntary labour, aiming to improve daily transportation and ease public suffering.
Residents said the temporary repairs have made travel considerably safer and more convenient. However, they also urged the relevant government authorities to undertake a permanent reconstruction of the road to ensure long-term durability and safe year-round access.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by the local community as an example of grassroots participation in addressing urgent infrastructure needs.
