MONGLA, July 23 (V7N) — A human chain was held in Mongla on Wednesday protesting what organisers described as “unethical activities” by Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam.
The programme was organised by the Conscious Citizens’ Society at the municipal market area around 11:30am, where speakers condemned the alleged actions of the Jamaat leader and MP.
The speakers claimed that the Jamaat’s role during the 1971 Liberation War was being reflected through such incidents and expressed strong criticism against Nazrul Islam.
After the human chain, participants, including men and women, reportedly protested by striking an effigy of Gazi Nazrul Islam with shoes, spitting on it and later setting it on fire to express their anger.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Mongla Upazila BNP General Secretary Abu Hossain Poni, Mongla Municipality BNP Organising Secretary Golam Nur Jony, Municipal Jubo Dal Member Secretary M.A. Kashem and Upazila Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leader Nargis Begum.
