Pabna, July 27 (V7N) — A rare species of civet was rescued after being trapped in a fishing device in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna and later released back into its natural habitat by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
The animal was found trapped in a traditional fishing trap locally known as a "dhudi" on Sunday morning at Kumargara village under Bilchalan Union of Chatmohar.
After being informed, Chatmohar UNO Musa Naser Chowdhury arrived at the spot and rescued the animal. With assistance from the Forest Department, he later released the civet into a forested area behind the Bilchalan Union Parishad office.
Local residents gathered at the scene to see the rare wildlife species.
According to locals, a young man named Milon Hossain discovered the unusual animal while checking a fishing trap in the area. After rescuing it, he searched online and identified the animal as a civet before informing the UNO.
The rescued civet was released safely in the presence of Forest Assistant Ratan Ali Bishwas.
UNO Musa Naser Chowdhury said the animal is a rare and harmless species that is now considered endangered in many areas.
"After receiving the information, we went to the spot and rescued the animal without any injury. Since it is a vulnerable and nocturnal species, we released it back into the forest so it could return to its natural environment," he said.
