Mongla, Oct 04 (V7N) – Goats were transported in an ambulance belonging to Mongla Port Municipality, sparking controversy after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of September 29 when ambulance driver Md Shariful loaded six goats into the municipal ambulance at Zero Point in Khulna.
A person at the scene recorded the incident and later posted the video on social media, where it quickly went viral. The goats were subsequently transported to Mongla.
The goats belonged to Mongla-based goat trader and butcher Md Rashid. There are allegations that Shariful had previously transported goats in the ambulance at night in exchange for money, although the driver denied the allegation.
Shariful said this was the first time he had transported goats in the ambulance and claimed that he did not receive any money for carrying them.
Rashid said he had purchased the goats in Chuknagar and brought them to Zero Point. As he could not find another vehicle there, he stopped the ambulance and transported the six goats to Mongla.
He also said he did not pay the ambulance driver for transporting the goats.
According to Rashid, Shariful was returning to Mongla after dropping off a patient in Khulna when he transported the goats in the ambulance.
Following the incident, municipal authorities took the ambulance keys from Shariful on Friday, October 2.
The incident has triggered widespread discussion and criticism in Mongla, with questions being raised about the use of a municipal ambulance for transporting livestock.
Mongla Port Municipality Administrator Sharmin Akter Sumi could not be reached for comment as she did not answer phone calls.
