Rangamati, Oct 26 (V7N) – Thousands of Buddhist devotees gathered at the historic Rajban Vihara in Rangamati on Sunday to celebrate Prabarana Purnima, praying for peace, harmony and the well-being of all living beings.
The celebrations began in the morning with the raising of Buddhist flags, Buddha Puja, offerings of Buddha statues, Sangha Dana and other religious rituals. Devotees of all ages joined the ceremonies, with many travelling from distant hill communities.
The monastery grounds echoed with prayers and chants as worshippers sought spiritual purification and peace for their families, the country and the world. Traditional sky lanterns were released in the evening.
Amiyo Khisa, general secretary of the Rajban Vihara Devotees’ Council, said the festival teaches forgiveness, self-discipline and loving-kindness, promoting peace and harmony in society.
Prabarana Purnima marks the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent, known as Vassa, during which monks devote themselves to meditation and religious practice. The period is followed by preparations for Kathina Civara Dana, an important Buddhist ceremony involving offerings of robes to monks.
The festival reflects the Buddhist principles of compassion, non-violence and goodwill towards all living beings.
