Jessore, Jan 21, (V7N) - A violent clash broke out at Jessore Government Michael Madhusudan (MMC) College campus on Monday night following an altercation between students and outsiders over smoking. The incident led to widespread chaos near Asad Hall, where students and outsiders engaged in a confrontation involving chasing, throwing bricks, and stone pelting. Several students were injured in the incident. The situation was brought under control after two hours with the intervention of law enforcement agencies.

According to Jewel Imran, Additional Police Superintendent (Circle-KA), a trivial dispute over smoking escalated into a confrontation. "The situation became tense, but the police intervened to calm things down. All students are safe on campus," he said.

The trouble began on Monday evening when two outsiders were seen smoking near the Shahid Asad Hall. When students objected and asked them to stop, the outsiders reportedly attacked the students. News of the altercation spread quickly, and soon, leaders of the local student wing, Chhatra Dal, arrived at the scene. A group of around 40-50 individuals led by a local man, Sagar from Khorki area, retaliated by throwing bricks at the students. The situation escalated into a back-and-forth exchange of stones, injuring at least three students.

In protest against the violence, students began a demonstration, demanding punishment for the attackers and those involved in the stone-pelting incident. The district's youth and student organizations, along with local administration officials, arrived at the scene to control the unrest.

Rajidur Rahman Sagar, the president of the district Chhatra Dal, explained that Sagar, a known troublemaker in the area, had been harassing general students with activities such as theft, drug abuse, and disturbing students in nearby hostels. He added that on Monday, Sagar and his associates had assaulted some students, prompting a strong reaction from the student body and Chhatra Dal leaders.

The principal of the college, Dr. Khandokar Ehsanul Kabir, responded to the situation, saying, "I am not fully aware of the details of the incident yet. You may send journalists to gather information and report accordingly." His statement reflects the principal's commitment to transparency and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere on campus.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and further actions will be taken as necessary.
