Mongla, Feb 21 (V7N) - Assistant Professor Md. Abul Muktadir of Sundarbans Women's College in Bagerhat's Rampal is reportedly attempting to secure the position of Acting Principal by surpassing 13 senior Assistant Professors. Allegations claim that he is using influence to create a fearful environment in the college, pressuring teachers to sign blank papers under threats and forwarding them to the relevant education department, all while promoting his bid to become the principal.
According to written complaints, the current principal, Sheikh Khalid Ahmed, will retire on February 24, 2025. Following this, the Vice-Principal is usually designated as the Acting Principal. However, Muktadir, who is the 14th senior on the faculty, is attempting to manipulate the situation to assume this position, despite regulations stating that the most senior teachers should be considered first.
Muktadir has been accused of exploiting his political connections, particularly with former mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek and former MP Habibun Nahar, over the last 15–16 years. Reports suggest that he has been managing political figures to maintain his position, neglecting his duties as a teacher. Furthermore, he has allegedly been involved in inappropriate activities, including involving students in political events, which has caused dissatisfaction among female students who feel that the college, once free of politics, is becoming politicized under his influence.
Despite these serious allegations, Muktadir denies any wrongdoing, claiming that his popularity is being undermined by opponents. He maintains that all teachers willingly signed for him to take on the Acting Principal role.
The college’s administration has emphasized that no more irregularities will be tolerated and that the institution will be run according to proper laws and regulations.
