Kushtia, Mar 5, (V7N) – A significant disturbance unfolded at the Vice-Chancellor's office of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Tuesday as a group of teachers clashed over the appointment of favored candidates and the removal of Awami League supporters from key administrative positions.

Witnesses reported that after a confrontation among the teachers, student leaders entered the VC's office, voicing their long-standing demands to remove Awami League affiliates from several administrative posts, including registrar, planning and development, examination controller, and chief engineer’s offices, and to appoint individuals sympathetic to the July mass uprising.

The situation escalated during a meeting between university officials and the Acting Director of the Planning and Development Department, Dr. Nowab Ali, over a major university project. Staff began chanting for his removal, leading to his escort out of the VC's office with assistance from the proctorial body.

Later, leaders and activists from Jatiotabadi Chhatradal Dol, led by convener Sahed Ahmed and member secretary Masud Rumi Mithun, entered the office. The chaos continued when members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement arrived, demanding that no discussions occur without their presence. Journalists were barred from entering as the situation spiraled into further disorder.

The Anti-Discrimination Movement's coordinator, SM Sweet, condemned the disruptions and issued a 48-hour ultimatum, demanding action against those responsible for the unrest. Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah expressed frustration, stating that he was working to resolve the campus issues and that the division caused by the disturbance was unnecessary.

The situation remains tense as the university seeks a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
