Dhaka, Sept 4 (V7N) — Following the legal green light from the Appellate Division, Dhaka University’s campus is once again alive with activity as candidates ramp up campaigning for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, scheduled for September 9.
The resumption came after the Supreme Court’s full bench—including Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed—upheld a stay on the High Court’s temporary suspension order, effectively removing any obstacle to the election. The stay is to remain in effect until October 30.
With the legal uncertainty lifted, the university administration, as represented by lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir, confirmed that the election will proceed as planned.
Campaigning has now resumed across the campus, with candidates actively promoting their platforms and engaging directly with students in various areas. Simultaneously, the DUCSU Election Commission has canceled previously announced holidays for September 8 and 10. Only the election day itself—September 9—has been declared a university holiday.
The election is poised to be a tightly contested affair. Official documents state that some 462 candidates will compete for 28 positions, with a voter base of nearly 39,800 students eligible to participate.
