Rajshahi, Dec 23 (V7N) — Shakilur Rahman Sohag, senior vice president of the Rajshahi University unit of Bangladesh Chatra Dal, has issued a warning that the student wing could remove Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RUCSU ) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammaar from campus within 30 minutes. The statement was made during a welcome rally and subsequent assembly on Monday afternoon at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial grounds, organized to mark the homecoming of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. A video of Sohag’s remarks quickly circulated on social media, sparking public discussion.
Sohag criticized RUCSU leaders for allegedly creating instability on campus by locking several university offices, including those of deans, the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, registrar, and proctor, over the past days. “We issued a statement in protest to maintain a healthy campus environment. While ordinary students welcomed this, certain RUCSU leaders opposed it,” he said.
Addressing Salahuddin Ammaar directly, Sohag added, “Do not attempt to confront Chatra Dal. We do not need the entire Rajshahi city; the Rajshahi University Chatra Dal alone can remove someone like you from campus in just 30 minutes — capable, capable, capable.”
In response, Salahuddin Ammaar posted on his personal Facebook account, asserting that he would not be intimidated. “One uncle from Chatra Dal announced today that he will lock me out in 30 minutes. Listen carefully! Since 2007, I have not been a burden on this campus like stray animals. I will stay here as long as necessary… I will work to challenge the Awami fascists. If you have courage, come, Chandabhai,” he wrote.
The welcome rally, organized by the university’s Chatra Dal unit, began around 1:30 pm at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial grounds and proceeded along key campus roads before returning to the starting point for a brief assembly. Participants chanted slogans such as “The motherland calls, Tarique Rahman is coming,” “Tarique Rahman will return to the land of heroes,” and “Tarique Rahman is fearless, we will not leave the streets.”
During the assembly, Chatra Dal president Sultan Ahmed Rahi said that despite conspiratorial challenges, the return of BNP leader Tarique Rahman after 18 years reflects the strength of the Bangladeshi people. He urged party supporters to prevent attempts to create unrest across the country after December 25 and pledged that BNP leaders and activists would respond firmly against any such efforts to destabilize the nation.
