Chattogram, Feb 12, (V7N) – Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam Bir Protik expressed deep satisfaction Thursday over the unprecedented festivity and enthusiasm during the opening hours of Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election and referendum.
Casting his ballot at Bangladesh Women’s Association School and College polling centre in Chattogram-9 around 7:35 a.m., Faruk-e-Azam told BSS, “People of all ages are enjoying the voting festival like Eid.” He said the sacrifices of the July Uprising would be made meaningful through such participatory and peaceful elections.
The veteran freedom fighter noted that the polls are being closely observed by the international community, including the EU, UK, US, and UN. He emphasized that if the peaceful atmosphere continues through the announcement of results and a smooth transition of power, Bangladesh’s image will be strengthened globally.
Faruk-e-Azam visited several constituencies after voting, including Hathazari, Fatikchari, Raozan, and Rangunia, to observe the situation firsthand. He said the interim government led by Prof. Muhammad Yunus is committed to holding the election in a free, fair, and festive manner, with cooperation from the Election Commission, political parties, administration, law enforcement agencies, and the people.
