Rangamati, Feb 12, (V7N) – Polling began peacefully Thursday morning in Rangamati district for Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election, with voters turning out early in a festive atmosphere. Voting started at 7:30 a.m. and will continue until 4:30 p.m. under extensive security arrangements.

District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Najma Ashrafi, along with Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib and other senior officials, visited polling centres to monitor the situation. To maintain law and order, 3,400 army personnel, 37 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 1,595 police officers, and 2,769 Ansar members have been deployed, supported by 12 executive magistrates.

The Rangamati constituency (No. 299) comprises two municipalities and 50 unions under 10 upazilas, with 509,267 registered voters, including 263,410 men, 245,855 women, and two transgender voters. Seven candidates are contesting the seat.

Authorities said the coordinated deployment of forces aims to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election across the district.
