CHATTOGRAM, May 26, (V7N): Police have registered a major criminal case against 242 individuals, including 150 to 200 unidentified assailants, following a violent armed assault on law enforcement personnel and the severe vandalism of a newly established joint forces camp in Chattogram's Jungle Salimpur area.
The formal case was filed on Monday night by Inspector Sohel Rana, the in-charge of the Faujdarhat police outpost under Sitakunda Police Station, as confirmed today by the station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohinul Islam.
According to OC Mohinul Islam, the first information report (FIR) explicitly names 42 specific individuals, including five suspects who were apprehended by security forces directly from the scene of the clash, as well as a notorious local criminal syndicate leader identified as Mohammad Yasin. In addition to the named suspects, a massive group of 150 to 200 unidentified attackers has been legally indicted in the case.
The police chief further clarified that the case has been recorded under multiple stringent sections of the Explosives Act. The charges brought against the rioters include launching coordinated armed assaults on police personnel, utilizing illegal explosives, violently obstructing government officials from executing their lawful duties, and causing deliberate, extensive damage to state property.
The criminal filing stems from a highly organized tactical ambush carried out by armed terrorists at approximately 2:00 AM on Sunday. The militant group stormed and completely destroyed a newly constructed operational base for the joint forces located in the volatile Alinagar neighborhood of Jungle Salimpur.
Investigating officers revealed that the attack was meticulously planned; prior to launching the raid, the terrorists cut off and sabotaged the primary access road at four separate transit locations. This strategic blockade was engineered to intentionally delay and trap law enforcement reinforcements, preventing them from reaching the compound quickly to repel the assault. Additional police contingents have since been deployed to the area to track down the fleeing suspects and restore structural order.
