Jamalganj, Sunamganj, Aug 19 (V7N) – The foundation stone of an over 11-kilometre flyover was laid Tuesday in Jamalganj upazila under the "Haor Area Elevated Road and Physical Infrastructure Improvement Project (HAERPIIP)", aimed at transforming connectivity and strengthening rural infrastructure in the haor region.

Lawmaker of Sunamganj-1 (Tahirpur-Jamalganj-Dharmapasha-Madhyanagar) constituency Kamaruzzaman Kamrul laid the foundation stone as the chief guest at a ceremony held at Sachna Bazar High School playground.

Speaking at the event, Kamrul said the flyover would play an important role in improving the lives of haor residents and developing the region's communication network.

"The elevated bridge marks the beginning of a new era in fulfilling the long-standing dream of haor residents," he said, adding, "Besides improving communication with villages that become isolated during the monsoon, the project will bring revolutionary changes to education, healthcare and the local economy."

Jamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shilpi Rani chaired the programme while Azizur Rahman Aziz, joint convener of Jamalganj upazila BNP, moderated it.

Project Director Ferdous Ahmed, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Executive Engineer Md Anwar Hossain and Anisul Haque, a central committee member of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and former chairman of Tahirpur Upazila Parishad, also addressed the gathering as special guests.

The project is expected to significantly ease travel for haor residents, particularly during the monsoon season when many areas become cut off from the rest of the district.
