Gazipur, Sept 24 (V7N) – Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has launched an automation software system for holding tax and trade licence services aimed at making various civic services easier and more transparent for local residents.

GCC Administrator Md Shaukat Hossain Sarker formally inaugurated the system virtually at a programme held at the conference room of the city corporation's Nagar Bhaban at 11 am on Thursday. Chief Executive Officer of GCC Ms Tanzila Khanam presided over the event.

Under the new system, residents will be able to apply for holding tax and trade licences, submit required information and pay fees from home. The initiative is expected to improve transparency and accountability in revenue management while ensuring more effective use of data.

In his inaugural remarks, Administrator Md Shaukat Hossain Sarker said the digital initiative was taken to bring tax and trade licence services to people's doorsteps. He described the move as a new chapter in GCC's service delivery and said other civic services would gradually be brought under online processing. He said the digitalisation would help save citizens' time and money while reducing their need to visit city corporation offices.

GCC Chief Executive Officer Tanzila Khanam said the corporation is working to increase revenue through accurate holding mapping and data-driven modern technology. As part of the initiative, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the ICT Division's Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme and Gazipur City Corporation on February 8, 2026. Under the agreement, a2i's payment platform 'Ekpay' has been integrated with the city corporation's software.

The integration will allow citizens to pay fees securely from anywhere through mobile banking, digital wallets, online or agent banking and cards. Water bill collection through Ekpay is already being operated on a pilot basis, with collected funds regularly deposited into the authorised bank account.

Abdullah Al Mamun, managing director of Spectrum IT Solutions, presented the technical framework of the software at the programme. Among others, a2i Project Chief Adviser Masudur Rahman, GCC Regional Executive Officer Mahmuda Akter and Tax Assessment Officer Kamrul Islam Pathan spoke at the event. Chief Engineer Md Abdul Barek, members of the technical team and officials from various departments of the city corporation were also present.
