Khulna, Sept 25 (V7N) – Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Faruk Wasif has urged journalists to enhance their professional skills, uphold journalistic ethics and ensure objective reporting, stressing that journalism is not merely a profession but also a mirror of society and an important instrument of social change.
He made the call at an exchange of views with journalists at Khulna Press Club on Thursday evening. The meeting was held at the Humayun Kabir Balu Auditorium of the press club, with its Senior Vice-President Sohrab Hossain in the chair and General Secretary Md Tariqul Islam moderating.
As the chief guest, Faruk Wasif said, "Amid the changing context and the advancement of technology, the challenges to objective and investigative journalism have increased manifold." He stressed the importance of regular training to help journalists avoid unethical practices and maintain professional standards.
The PIB DG said the institute would gradually introduce more modern and need-based training programmes to improve the professional skills of journalists working at district and divisional levels outside Dhaka.
Former Khulna Press Club General Secretary Hasan Ahmed Molla, Vice-President Md Zahidul Islam, executive members Sohel Mahmud and KM Ziaus Sadat, and members Sohag Dewan, Abdullah Al Mamun Rubel, DM Reza Sohag and Md Raju Howlader, among others, spoke at the meeting.
Earlier, Khulna Press Club leaders welcomed Faruk Wasif with flowers. At the end of the programme, Faruk Wasif presented six books published by PIB to the Khulna Press Club library.
The Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) is the national training institute for journalists in Bangladesh, working under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The institute conducts various training programmes, workshops, and seminars to enhance the professional skills of journalists and media professionals across the country. The PIB has been expanding its outreach to district and divisional levels to ensure that journalists outside Dhaka have access to modern training and capacity-building opportunities.
