Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, stated on Tuesday, December 26 that his organization did not want the opposition parties to boycott the national election, arguing that their participation would have increased competition.

"We never intended for the opposition to abstain from running for office. While a large number of people are taking part, the election would have been more competitive if those people—including the BNP—had chosen to take part. We are aware that there can be fierce competition," he remarked.

This was stated by Quader during the opening of a training program for poll workers at the Awami League office in the Dhaka district.

"BNP believed that if they didn't exist, there wouldn't be any people in the nation, there wouldn't be a joyous election, and there would be no voter participation. but have fallen short in their endeavors," he remarked.

He claimed that they are currently spreading tales about how elections won't be free and fair, how the administration will fail, and how voter turnout would be poor.

He went on to accuse the BNP of trying to rig the election by using violence and terrorism.
