Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N) —Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Monday highlighted the dire struggles of independent Ebtedai madrasas, emphasizing their battle against poverty to sustain themselves.

“These madrasas continue to survive while waging a battle against poverty. Despite living in dire conditions, independent Ebtedayee madrasa teachers remain committed to their duties,” GM Quader said in a statement sent to the media.

The Jatiya Party chairman expressed frustration, saying: “When this impoverished group of educators takes to the streets with legitimate demands, they are subjected to repression.”

Expressing his support for the protesting teachers, he said: “Independent Ebtedai madrasa teachers are victims of discrimination. A discrimination-free society cannot be achieved while maintaining inequities in the education system.”

In the statement, the Jatiya Party chairman added: “The madrasa education system has been integrated into the mainstream education system. Madrasa certificates are now recognized alongside general education.

"Moreover, all other parts of madrasa education beyond the primary level have been included under MPO (Monthly Pay Order) and are receiving 100% salary benefits. However, regrettably, independent Ebtedai madrasas, which cover grades one to five, remain deprived of such rights.”

He urged the government to accept the demands of independent Ebtedai madrasa teachers.

GM Quader had previously addressed the justification for nationalizing independent Ebtedai madrasa education in speeches delivered in the National Parliament on November 19, 2020, and September 16, 2022.
