Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N)BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reiterated the party’s stance that national elections must be held before local government elections.

Speaking to reporters after the National Consensus Commission's dialogue with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday (February 15), he said,

“We have clearly stated that the national elections must come first, followed by the local government elections. We hope that the national elections will take place soon based on the minimum consensus formed on reforms.”

Consensus Commission Meeting: Introductory Discussion

Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul clarified that the session was merely introductory, stating,

“The first positive or constructive discussion did not take place today; it was a preliminary meeting. The commission has called on political parties to discuss the reform reports from each sub-commission. The parties will review these reports and work toward consensus.”
