Khagrachari, Feb 19, (V7N) - A protest rally and meeting were held in Khagrachari demanding the unconditional release of ATM Azharul Islam, the Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

As part of a central program, on Tuesday morning (February 18), a protest march led by Professor Syed Abdul Momen, Amir of Khagrachari District Jamaat, started from Chenghi Square. The procession moved through the main roads of the city and concluded with a rally at the Mukto Mancha.

Speakers at the rally included Professor Syed Abdul Momen, District Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Khagrachari; Advocate Ayub Ali Chowdhury, the potential candidate for the Khagrachari constituency in the upcoming national elections; Mohammed Yusuf, Assistant Secretary of District Jamaat; Minhajur Rahman, Secretary of District Jamaat; Abdul Mannan, President of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation in Khagrachari; Md. Ilyas, Amir of Khagrachari Sadar Upazila and Member of District Executive Committee; Md. Main Uddin, President of Islami Chhatra Shibir Khagrachari District, along with other district and upazila leaders of Jamaat.

The speakers condemned the government for what they described as a politically motivated, false case against ATM Azharul Islam, based on fabricated testimonies of government supporters. They demanded the unconditional release of Azharul Islam and the restoration of Jamaat's registration with its party symbol. They warned that if their demands were not met, the government would be forced to face a nationwide movement.
