Dhaka, Mar 12 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has stated that there is no room for delaying the upcoming elections due to reforms, emphasizing that if the necessary reforms are completed swiftly, elections could be held by June or July this year.
Abbas made the comments while addressing the BNP's 31-point and public relations workshop organized by the Shahjahanpur Police Station BNP on Wednesday. He expressed his firm belief that the country could proceed with elections promptly if reforms were implemented quickly, underscoring the urgency of holding elections without further delay.
He also criticized certain political parties and politicians who, according to him, were opposing the election process without genuinely supporting democratic practices. "These parties are not effective opposition forces; they lack patriotism and fear the vote and the election," Abbas claimed.
In his speech, Abbas urged for both reforms and early elections, warning that any attempts to stall the process should be resisted.
Addressing the issue of corruption and misconduct, he made it clear that BNP stands against any form of extortion or misdeeds, stating, "It is easy to blame BNP for corruption, but those involved in such activities have no place in our party."
He also highlighted the sacrifices made by BNP leaders and activists over the years, citing the loss of 422 party members during the July movement, who were martyred while fighting for voting rights.
In his remarks aimed at the ruling Awami League, Mirza Abbas advised them not to treat the country as their personal property, urging them to speak with responsibility and accountability. "Unlike them, do not treat the country like a personal estate," he warned, stressing that the BNP’s stance is rooted in accountability and respect for the people’s rights.
