Dhaka, May 01 (V7N) — The National Citizens Party (NCP) is set to stage a protest rally on Friday (May 2) demanding the trial of the Awami League for alleged genocide and a complete ban on its political activities. The rally will take place in front of the south gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulistan at 3 PM.

Organized by the NCP's Dhaka Metropolitan Branch, the event will feature speeches by senior party leaders. The party has been actively campaigning across the capital since April 1, holding torchlight processions from police station to police station and distributing leaflets and pamphlets to raise public awareness about their demands.

In a video message released on Thursday, NCP Convener Nahid Islam urged Dhaka residents to join Friday’s demonstration, calling it a vital step toward “ensuring justice and ending political impunity.”

Meanwhile, preparations for the rally were underway from early morning. Trucks and pickups were seen stationed at the south gate area as workers began setting up the stage and arranging the rally route. The stage, initially placed near the mosque’s south gate, is being shifted closer to Gulistan Zero Point’s Shaheed Asad Square to accommodate larger crowds.

Sound systems and microphones have already been installed, extending from Gulistan toward Nayapaltan. As the day progresses, movement of public transport in the surrounding areas is expected to be restricted for safety and logistical reasons.

The protest is being closely watched as political tensions continue to escalate ahead of potential political transitions in the country.
