Dhaka, May 9 (V7N) — A large number of students and youth activists began a sit-in late Thursday night in front of the residence of the Chief Advisor at Jamuna, demanding a clear and official roadmap for banning the Awami League and its political activities.

The demonstration, which started at around 10:00 PM, continued past 1:30 AM, as the crowd steadily grew. Participants from a variety of organizations, including the National Citizens' Party (NCP), July Unity, Islami Chhatra Shibir, Ap Bangladesh, Democratic Student Parliament, Qawmi Madrasa students, Inqilab Mancha, and Chhatra Pokkho were present at the protest.

Security was visibly tightened in the area, with police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel deployed around the Chief Advisor’s residence. Protesters occupied the adjacent roads, chanting slogans such as “One, Two, Three, Four, Awami League No More,” “No Place for Killers in Bangladesh,” “Ban Awami League,” and “Power to the People.”

Speaking at the demonstration, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Ap Bangladesh’s Ali Ahsan Junayed, Rafe Salman Rifat, Mohammad Hizbullah, Shibir’s Information Secretary Sibghatullah, and Inqilab Mancha’s Sharif Osman Hadi voiced strong criticism against the ruling party. Several students from Qawmi Madrasas also addressed the crowd, demanding political accountability and systemic reform.

Protesters called on the interim administration to take immediate steps toward banning the Awami League, citing alleged past violence and political misconduct. The sit-in, marked by chants, banners, and speeches, is being seen as a significant escalation in student-led opposition against the current political establishment.
