Dhaka, Aug 30 (V7N) – Violent clashes erupted between workers of the Jatiya Party (JP) and Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) on Friday evening, creating panic and chaos in the surrounding areas. The situation escalated when both groups engaged in a heated confrontation, prompting a large deployment of security forces, including the Bangladesh Army and police, to restore order.

The altercation occurred when a procession organized by Gono Odhikar Parishad came into conflict with Jatiya Party workers near the party’s central office. According to the Jatiya Party, their members were attacked by GOP activists during the procession, leading to a violent exchange. However, Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders have claimed that the Jatiya Party workers initiated the confrontation by throwing bricks and provoking their group as they were on their way to the rally.

Rashed Khan, the General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, accused both Jatiya Party and Awami League supporters of orchestrating an attack on their peaceful march. He stated that several of their activists were injured in the assault and were being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, Khondakar Delwar Jalali, the Press Secretary of the Jatiya Party Chairman, claimed that their central office was also attacked by "terrorists." He expressed concerns that another assault could take place at the party’s headquarters. He reassured that security forces, including army personnel, were present at the scene to prevent further violence and maintain law and order.

The clashes, which caused significant disruption to public life, were ultimately brought under control by the intervention of law enforcement agencies. A heavy presence of police and military personnel remained in the area to ensure the situation did not escalate further.

Both political parties have accused each other of instigating violence, and tensions remain high in the area. Authorities have not yet commented on the specifics of the investigation into the incident or whether arrests have been made.

This altercation follows a series of ongoing political protests and confrontations between rival parties in the capital, further fueling concerns about the growing political instability in Bangladesh ahead of upcoming elections.

Status Update:
As of now, the situation has been brought under control, and security forces continue to monitor the area. Investigations are underway to determine the full details of the incident, and both parties have called for swift justice for the injured workers.
