Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed his firm determination to actively participate in the upcoming national parliamentary election rallies. Speaking as the chief guest virtually from London at a discussion session organized by BNP on the occasion of Great Victory Day at Engineers’ Institution auditorium in Ramna, Dhaka, Rahman said there is no reason for fear and the election will be held on schedule. “I will be part of this electoral march to establish people’s rights in villages, towns, markets, streets, and public spaces,” he affirmed.

Rahman highlighted past attempts to obstruct elections, noting that multiple groups with anti-Bangladesh agendas have repeatedly created obstacles under various pretexts. He emphasized that despite these challenges, the Election Commission has announced the date for the much-awaited national election. He cautioned that conspirators are still active and referenced the recent attack on Osman Hadi as part of this ongoing plot.

He raised questions about who would benefit if the current government remained in power without an election, asserting that the answers to these questions reveal those hiding behind attacks on democracy advocates. Rahman urged unity and steadfastness, saying, “Those attempting to intimidate pro-democracy citizens will fail. With faith in Allah and collective action, the conspirators will inevitably retreat.”

The BNP acting chairman stressed that the upcoming election is not merely an experiment or experience, but a highly complex and crucial vote that involves the hopes, aspirations, and rights of present and future generations. He added that the election also concerns the sovereignty and interests of Bangladesh. “This nation was not arbitrarily established; it was earned through the sacrifices of millions of martyrs and the honor of countless mothers and sisters,” Rahman said.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir noted that the individual responsible for the attack on Osman Hadi has been identified as an Awami League affiliate, warning against attempts to falsely implicate BNP. He stressed the importance of the upcoming election in determining whether the country will progress or regress.

The discussion session was chaired by BNP publicity secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku and featured speeches by standing committee members including Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, and chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam.
