Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) – In the wake of the attempted assassination of Osman Hadi, law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the attack.

According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan, along with another suspect, has been identified as directly connected to the incident. Prior to this, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and DMP had already arrested seven suspects for allegedly aiding the shooter. Authorities are continuing their operations to ensure that all persons involved in planning and executing the attack are brought to justice.

The attack, which targeted Osman Hadi – a prominent political figure and activist associated with the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and anti-discrimination movements – occurred amid rising political tensions in Dhaka. Security agencies have expressed heightened concern for the safety of political leaders, activists, and other public figures following this incident.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz recently instructed all 16 police station officers to ensure the security of NCP candidates and leaders of anti-discrimination student movements across the city. Officers were directed to coordinate with the individuals concerned and take all necessary measures to guarantee their safety during their daily movements, at party offices, and at election rallies.

Officials have emphasized that the attack is part of a larger trend of politically motivated threats in Bangladesh, including online and offline intimidation. Authorities are urging political organizations and the public to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies to prevent further incidents and maintain the integrity of the upcoming 13th National Parliament election and referendum.

Security experts have noted that politically motivated attacks on opposition leaders could disrupt the democratic process. The government and law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to protecting all citizens and political participants to ensure a free and fair election.
